About Arken Wheeler
I write cinematic myths that win awards—and make people money.
I’m Arken Wheeler, an award-winning screenwriter, filmmaker, narrative designer, and creative consultant originally from Tampa, Florida, now based in Qingdao, China. I specialize in writing and developing high-concept, commercially viable screenplays across genres like supernatural thrillers, mythic dramas, grounded sci-fi, visionary adventure, and existential character pieces.
My work has earned international recognition at top-tier film festivals and screenplay competitions, including the New York Script Awards, SoCal Film Awards, Orlando Film Festival, Bangkok Movie Awards, Sweden Film Awards, Student Los Angeles Film Awards, and many more. With a BFA in Creative Writing from Full Sail University and membership in the International Association of Professional Writers and Editors (IAPWE), I bring both literary discipline and cinematic instinct to every project. My storytelling blends emotional voltage, calculated structure, and cultural relevance—crafted not just to win festivals, but to resonate with global audiences.
I’ve filmed and lived across Australia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Madagascar, and I’ve worked as a creative director, educator, and international school principal. My voice is shaped by lived experience and inspired by mysticism, myth, migration, and meaning.

PREMISE: In 1905, John, an Irish immigrant tunnel digger and bare-knuckle boxing champion on the run from New York City after killing a cop and haunted by arrives in burnt down Havre, Montana. Haunted by Dagda the giant Celtic earth god following a traumatic head injury, and down to his last dollar amidst joblessness, he enjoys a subterranean world of brothels, speakeasies and opium dens. He takes a job as bodyguard for Sing Lee, a polarizing and eccentric Chinese entrepreneur who shares tales of supernatural treasures hidden beneath Death Valley. Escaping an ambush by a racist cowboy mob, John kills the sheriff during an all-night gun battle, before they steal a train and skip town.
The two co-dependent outsiders are joined by Michael Murphy, an Irish ex-NYC cop, Lita and Erin, a pair of exotic prostitutes in love, Lisa Jefferson, the slain sheriff's fifteen-year-old daughter, and Maria Magdalena, a New Mexican dominatrix, among other odd outliers of the weird and dying wild west. Hunted by the sadistic Deputy Jefferson seeking vengeance for his father, the scheming caravan of fugitives encounters new enemies at every turn across strange and unforgiving stolen lands, navigating vast criminal underworlds raging amidst cities along the Pacific coast, descending toward their Death Valley fortune.
This uncanny tale, inspired by surreal history and the ambitious stories of downtrodden characters turned against each other, reveals mysterious lives and forgotten societies, lost but thriving in The Underground.

This gritty neo-noir crime thriller weaves the lessons in martial arts and samurai spiritual warfare written by Miyamoto Musashi in The Book of Five Rings, with a bold statement on how our society treats the houseless, while we bear witness to the increasing stranglehold upon the freedoms we have left by a corporate fascist police state impervious to the law it enforces.
